Described as an unsung hero of our industry, Leesa Haimona – Timberlands is the Hero of the Industry Award recipient at the 2022 Central North Island Wood Council Awards.
Leesa has been instrumental in several health and safety initiatives and improvements. Her dedication to the community involvement and promotion is exemplary.
She has a passion for and deep knowledge of tikanga that brings her to work, and she is the go-to person for anything health and safety.
She knows the systems, rules, and ways like no one else and has many achievements under her belt, including the introduction of a new incident reporting and management systems for safety and the environment, development new company Health & Safety standards to take the benchmark into a new era.
Not only does Leesa organise large events and workshops for the company, but she has also picked up the Wood is Good programme to educate our local kura around logging truck safety.
She is responsible for the introduction of a safe hunting program and a Tri-Series to get people training and exercising, and is committed to extending knowledge and education in safety with many qualifications and courses.
