ACOP Review - Technical Workshops in March

FICA, FOA and FISC have been working hard with WorkSafe on progressing the ACOP. There has been much debate around the purpose, intended target, the language and format of the ACOP.

The original intent of the review was to bring the ACOP up to speed with the Heath Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA) and to incorporate a number of supplementary documents. It has become apparent that the HSWA does restrict for who and how the ACOP can be written.

As a result, the ACOP will specifically be targeted at PCBUs (not Employers, contractors and workers), the language will be less prescriptive and there will be some change in the formatting.

WorkSafe are doing their best under the HSWA constraints to produce a ACOP that is fit for purpose.  Critical to this is ensuring the technical content is correct. To achieve this WorkSafe will be running seven technical works covering Manual tree falling X2, Mobile plant, Mech falling/steep slope/winch assist, establishment and silviculture, cable logging and breaking out, general requirements and working on landings and site access.

FICA sent out an invite to all members and associates to be involved in the workshops being held 19th- 25th March. We got a very good response and we have been able to provide very good representation in all workshops to ensure contractors voice is heard. If you have volunteered, you should have received an invite. Thank you for your valued input.
